This document is the detailed judgment dated 18-01-2025 by the Sealdah district court, involving the brutal assault and murder of a lady doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital on August 9, 2024. The case sent shockwaves across the nation due to the heinous nature of the crime and its occurrence at a prominent workplace.
The incident was reported by the victim's father, leading to the registration of the police case on the same day. Initially investigated as an unnatural death, the case was transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and subsequently to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 13, 2024, following directives from the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta.
The CBI conducted a comprehensive investigation involving forensic analyses, witness testimonies, and examination of CCTV footage. The trial, conducted in-camera, resulted in the conviction of the accused, Sanjay Roy, on charges under Sections 64 (Punishment for Rape), 66 (Punishment for Causing Death), and 103(1) (Punishment for Murder) of the BNS Act.
