This report, published by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), provides a comprehensive analysis of the growing risks posed by extreme heat across India. Covering 734 districts, it highlights how rising temperatures, especially increasing night time heat, are affecting large parts of the country. The study identifies that over half of Indian districts face high to very high heat risk, impacting around three-quarters of the population.

The report draws attention to key regional hotspots including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi, where the effects of extreme heat are most pronounced. It explores the consequences on public health, agriculture, water resources, and overall economic productivity. The findings underscore the urgent need for tailored heat action plans, better urban design, and increased public awareness to manage these challenges effectively.

By combining detailed district-level data with policy recommendations, this report serves as an important resource for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders working towards climate resilience in India.
