Report on climate-induced heat stress: Insights from the field study in Bhopal

The Analysis conducted a study in Bhopal to assess the impact of heat stress on vulnerable populations amidst rising temperatures. They surveyed 50 individuals, including street vendors, women, persons with disabilities, gig workers, and outdoor workers, to understand their experiences and awareness of heatwave effects.

Some key findings of the study: 

• 72% of the respondents in the survey shared that they spend more than 8 hours outdoors. 
• 60% of respondents said that they continue to work even during the peak hours of the day.
• 32% of the respondents feel that their business/livelihood has been affected due to extreme heat. 
• 70% of the respondents shared that they feel fatigued or experience headaches and eye irritation due to working in heat. 
• 98% of the respondents are unaware of any weather guidelines or warnings the government agencies issue.
