In 2020, NCRB Published the’ Crime in India-2019′ report. According to the report, crime against Women increased by 7.3% in 2019 as compared to 2018 & India reported 87 rape cases daily! In this thread, we bring to you data related to crime against women.

The majority of cases of crime against women under IPC were registered under ‘Cruelty by husband or his relatives’ (30.9%) followed by ‘Assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty’ (21.8%), ‘Kidnapping & abduction of women’ (17.9%) and ‘Rape’ (7.9%).
In 2019, a total of 4,977 girl child were victims of rape, while the numbers were 27,283 for women victims of rape. In 30,165 rape cases, the offenders were known to the victims (94.2%).
In States, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of crimes against women (59,853), while Nagaland reported the lowest number of cases (43). While in Union Territories, Delhi reported the highest number of cases (13395) & Daman & Diu the lowest (33).
The highest number of rape cases were reported in Rajasthan (5,997) followed by Uttar Pradesh (3,065) and Madhya Pradesh (2,485). Rajasthan also had the highest reported rape cases per lakh population at 15.9, followed by Kerala (11.1) and Haryana (10.9).
Rajasthan also reported the highest number of rape cases against Dalit women (554), followed by UP (537) & MP (510). While Kerala, the most literate state, had the highest rate of rape cases against Dalit women per lakh population at 4.6, followed by MP(4.5) and Rajasthan (4.5).
